The Alrov Institute for Real Estate Research advances excellence, efficiency, and fairness, in the field of real estate by generating academic research, educating the future generation of professionals, and influencing the public agenda in the market
Vision
The Alrov Institute for Real Estate Research was established at Tel Aviv University’s Coller School of Management to research and disseminate the latest knowledge in the field of real estate, in all its theoretical and applied facets. In so doing, the Institute strives to advance knowledge in the area of real estate through innovative research in the field of real estate in its broadest sense, training the future generation of leaders and decision-makers of the real estate market, and managing local and international forums for researchers, policy-makers, and professionals in the industry. The Institute aims to maintain academic excellence and a leading international status in real estate research.







Aims
With the vision of advancing the research and knowledge in the field of real estate in Israel and throughout the world, the Alrov Institute focuses on four main objectives.

Advancing and promoting theoretical and applied academic research of the real estate market in its broadest sense in Israel and throughout the world.

Training students, who will be the future generation of decision-makers in the real estate market in the private and public sectors.

Influencing the public agenda of the real estate market in Israel and throughout the world by preparing policy papers and holding forums on critical issues in the real estate markets.

Professor Danny Ben-Shahar
Professor Danny Ben-Shahar is a faculty member at the Coller School of Management, Tel Aviv University and serves as the Director of the Alrov Institute for Real Estate Research. Ben-Shahar’s research focuses on the analysis of rational and irrational decision-making in the real estate market and socio-economic aspects of the housing market. Ben-Shahar’s publications appear in leading real estate and management journals. Ben-Shahar is a Weimer School Fellow at the Homer Hoyt Institute in Florida, USA and serves on the editorial boards of several academic journals. He also serves as a board member in several corporate entities in Israel. Ben-Shahar holds a B.A. in economics from Tel Aviv University and an MBA and a Ph.D. in finance and real estate from the University of California at Berkeley

Dr. Jacob Oded
Dr. Jacob Oded is a Senior Lecturer in Finance (tenured) at Tel Aviv University. He received a Master’s degree in Financial Economics and his Ph. D. degree from Carnegie-Mellon University. Before joining Tel Aviv University, He held an Assistant Professor position in Finance at Boston University. He also worked as a development engineer for Motorola Communications in Israel and as a financial analyst at Bank Hapoalim. Oded's research and teaching interests are in financial economics. Some areas of his research interest include capital structure, payout policy, corporate governance, and valuation

Professor Ayala Arad
Professor Ayala Arad is an Associate Professor in the Business Economics and Strategy Department and Head of the Solomon Lew Center for Consumer Behavior, at the Coller School of Management. She experimentally studies bounded rationality in individual decision-making processes and uses the findings to introduce novel models of behavior.

Professor Dan Weiss
Professor Dan Weiss is the director of Harel Center for Capital Market Research at Coller School of Management, Tel Aviv University. His research explores financial and managerial accounting, insurance and corporate governance. Dan joined Tel Aviv University on 2003 from the University of California at Davis. Dan was the Editor of Journal of Management Accounting Research and earned the Lybrand Certificate of Merit Award and several teaching awards in MBA and Executive MBA programs. Dan is a certified public accountant and an information systems engineer

Netta Gabbay
Netta Gabbay has been active in the non-profit sector for the past two decades. She served as the Assistant to the Director of Resource Development at the Jewish Agency, led a committee of managing directors in the construction industry, and chaired a committee that provides scholarships to students of Ethiopian descent. Additionally, she coordinated the student and educational institution initiatives for the Friends of Atidim organization. Netta also helped to establish the Alrov Fund, which awards scholarships to students, and has served as Director for the past 12 years

Professor Leonardo (Leo) Leiderman
Professor Leonardo (Leo) Leiderman holds the positions of Professor (Emeritus) at the Berglas School of Economics and Visiting Professor at the Coller School of Management at Tel-Aviv University. In addition, he is the Chief Economic Advisor of Bank Hapoalim, the largest commercial bank in Israel. Among previous senior positions held by Prof. Leiderman are: Managing Director and Head of Emerging Markets Economics at Deutsche Bank, based in New York and London , and Senior Director and Head of the Research Department at the Bank of Israel. Leiderman was also Chairman of the Department of Economics at Tel-Aviv University.

Doron Jacobi
Doron Jacobi holds a master’s degree with distinction in real estate finance from the University of Cambridge. He is a qualified lawyer and a registered real estate appraiser in Great Britain. His professional experience spans managerial roles in real estate organizations both in Israel and abroad. Additionally, he leads student research groups as part of the Alrov Institute

Professor Tsur Somerville
Professor Tsur Somerville is a visiting scholar at the Alrov Institute and an associate professor and holder of the Real Estate Foundation Professorship in Real Estate Finance at the Sauder School of Business at UBC. He received his Ph.D. in Economics from Harvard University.

Dr. Peleg Samuels
Dr. Peleg Samuels is a lecturer (AP equivalent) in Economics at the Berglas School of Economics, at Tel Aviv University. He holds a BA and MA in economics from the Hebrew University, and a PhD from Harvard University. His research focuses on urban economics and housing: the determinants of spatial demand, housing supply, and market prices. In particular, Peleg studies the impact of household real estate investors on the local markets in which they operate.

Remy Cohen
Remy Cohen is visiting scholar in infrastructure finance at the Alrov Institute. He has been teaching Infrastructure Project Finance and Public Private Partnerships at Master program in Corporate Finance, Bocconi University Business School in Milan

Professor Itai Ater
Professor Itai Ater is an Associate Professor in the Business Economics and Strategy Department at the Coller School of Management. His research examines the sources of the high cost of living in Israel, and in particular, how government policies, consumer behavior and firm actions contribute to the market outcomes in the food, automobile and real-estate markets.
